Mr. Edwards is a senior assistant attorney general with the violent crimes assistance team for the State of Colorado. Working in this capacity since 2007, he formerly served as chief deputy district attorney for the 14th Judicial Court for the State of Colorado in Hot Sulpher Springs, CO, from 2004 to 2007 and was in private practice in Denver, CO, from 1999 to 2004 and from 1991 to 1993. From 1993 to 1997, he was a magistrate in Denver courts. Mr. Edwards was also a member of the judicial faculty for the State of Colorado for three years beginning in 1988 and worked as a deputy public defender and head office public defender for the State of Colorado for 14 years beginning in 1977.

Outside of his work in the courtroom, Mr. Edwards has been teaching in the classroom as an adjunct professor at the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver for the past 30 years. Hired in 1988 as an instructor, he soon after became an adjunct professor in 1991. He has taught various courses in trial practice, evidence, criminal law and criminal procedure.

Serving as a coach for the appellate advocacy team, member of the advisory council for Colorado Legal Services and adjunct member of the Colorado Supreme Court Grievance Committee during his tenure, Mr. Edwards also spent time as a faculty member of the National Attorneys Generals Training and Research Center. He is a longstanding member of several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association and the Adams County Bar Association. He also served on the board of directors of the Metropolitan State University of Denver Alumni Association. Mr. Edwards has written extensively in his field as an author and co-editor of multiple publications and manuals on topics such as criminal law and the death penalty. Recently, he was involved with the "Trial Evidence Manual" for the Colorado District Attorney's Council in October 2017, where he updated chapters on character, hearsay, confrontation and experts.

Honored three times with a Colorado Attorney General's Exceptional Performance Award in 2010, 2013, and 2017, Mr. Edwards also recently received a National Attorney General's Training and Research Institute Faculty of the Year Award in 2017. He received a Faculty of the Year Award from the Colorado District Attorney's Council and was named Colorado State Public Defender of the Year. He has been highlighted in close to 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.

Locally involved, Mr. Edwards served in various roles for the City Arts III, the Metropolitan State University of Denver Alumni Association, and the Thursday Night Bar Pro Se Divorce Clinic. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, magna cum laude, and a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from the Metropolitan State University of Denver, as well as a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Colorado. He has been admitted to the Colorado Bar Association and the U.S. District Court of Colorado.
