Platt, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Platt celebrates many years of experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Platt has been recognized as professor emeritus of Bethel College since 1996, having been a professor of biology since 1969. Prior to obtaining this role, he was an associate professor from 1965 to 1969, an assistant professor from 1959 to 1965, and an instructor from 1957 to 1959. Earlier in his career, Dr. Platt was an education technician with American Friends Service Committee in Barpali, India, from 1954 to 1957 and an assistant instructor of zoology with the University of Kansas from 1952 to 1954.

Dr. Platt began his career as a student at Bethel College, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1952. He then joined the University of Kansas, completing a Master of Arts in 1954 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1966. He has been affiliated with several organizations in relation to his areas of expertise, including the American Ornithological Society, the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles, the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, the Ecological Society of America, the Natural Areas Association, Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. Dr. Platt is the former president of the Kansas Herpetological Society, the Kansas Ornithological Society, the Kansas Academy of Science, and the Kansas Native Plant Society. Dr. Platt has been a member since youth of the Mennonite Church and the Fellowship of Reconciliation.

Throughout his career, Dr. Platt has been recognized for his contributions, including with the Stephen L. Timme Award for Excellence in Botany from the Kansas Native Plant Society. The recipient of the Dr. Ivan L. Boyd Award from the Kansas Ornithological Society, he also received a Suzanne L. & Joseph T. Collins Award for Excellence in Kansas Herpetology from the Kansas Herpetological Society and the Center for North American Herpetology. The Smithsonian Institution awarded him a Research Support Grant, the Department of Health, Education and Welfare gave him two grants for environmental education, and the National Science Foundation has given him two research grants and a fellowship for graduate studies. An honoree of the Kansas Academy of Science as a 50-year member, Dr. Platt received a Chevron National Conservation Award, and Bethel College gave him the David H. Richert Distinguished Scholar Award and a Julius A. & Agatha Dyck Franz Distinguished Community Service Award. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in the Midwest.
