Roy M. Simon Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Roy M. Simon is an architect who has been in private practice for the past 60 years.

Mr. Simon is an architect who has been in private practice for the past 60 years. The firm, Roy M. Simon, A.I.A., Architect, was established in Delray Beach, Fl., in 1959, providing architectural services in building design, preparation of construction documents, construction administration, master site planning, feasibility analysis, interior design and space planning, and historic preservation.

Registered to practice in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama and certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, Mr. Simon is one of Delray Beach's oldest working architects. His legacy has included the two Community Centers for the City of Delray Beach, the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and School, the Delray Beach Public Library, among many other notable buildings in the City, as well as churches, public and private schools, the Town Hall in Highland Beach, private homes in New Jersey and both Carolinas, and dozens of other distinct structures along the East Coast. He was also the editor and compiler for the second edition of "Materials and Labor Estimator for the Entire Building Industry," which was published in 1977.

Outside of his day-to-day responsibilities of running his Architectural business, Mr. Simon has been active as a member of many boards for Delray Beach and Palm Beach County, including the Code Enforcement Board, the Community Appearance Board, the Planning and Zoning Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustments. He served as Vice President and two-time President of the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce, is a former Trustee and Board member of the Old School Square Historic Preservation Project, and twice served as the Chairman of the Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority. A charter board member and 42-year board member of the Delray Historical Society, he also continues to serve as a longtime Trustee since 1977. Furthermore, Mr. Simon is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Rotary Club of Delray Beach and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, a member, former Director and former President of the Florida Association of Architects Spanish River Section, and member, former Director and former President of the Delray Lions Lodge.

Mr. Simon's legacy in Delray Beach includes being an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church for over 80 years, where he has served as Vestryman, Junior Warden, lay reader, chalice bearer, choir member and Sunday school teacher. Recognized by the Rotary Club of Delray Beach with its "Service Above Self Award" for Outstanding and Devoted Service to the Community, Mr. Simon was also a two-time recipient of a U.S. Jaycee Distinguished Service Award and a Jaycee of the Year Award, and was cited in the "Outstanding Young Men of America".

Mr. Simon was honored by the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects and the Palm Beach Chapter for his Community Service with the "Architect Community Service Award" and the Hilliard T. Smith Award", respectively. He has notably been cited in the 11th, 19th, and 20th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest.

Mr. Simon's grandfather was the first member of the family to settle in Delray Beach, arriving in 1911, eventually becoming active in constructing homes and commercial facilities in the growing town. Meanwhile, his father became a prominent produce broker, shipping locally grown vegetables and gladiolas throughout the country.

Born and raised in Delray Beach, Mr. Simon attended the Delray Beach Public School System, later attending college at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 1952 and 1953, respectively. He then served two years in the U.S. Air Force between 1954 and 1956. While in the military, Mr. Simon served as the Installation Engineer during the construction of the Prestwick Air Base in Scotland, responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the new air base facilities, rising to the rank of Captain. Married since 1961 to wife Mary Elizabeth Wilder, Mr. Simon and she share three grown children, as well as three grandsons and two granddaughters.
