Mr. Hinchey is now retired from the position of partner of King and Spalding in Atlanta, GA, where he worked from 1992 to 2010. Before accepting this post, he was a name partner at a boutique construction law firm in Atlanta, GA from 1972 to 1992. In addition, Mr. Hinchey has been an active arbitrator for the Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Service since 2011.

His academic pursuits began at Emory University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1964. Mr. Hinchey continued his studies there and received a Bachelor of Laws in 1965. He went on to obtain a Master of Laws from Harvard University in 1966 and a Master of Literature from Oxford University in 1980. While attending Harvard, Mr. Hinchey was granted a Ford Foundation fellowship that enabled him to travel to Pakistan where he worked as a clerk to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Upon returning from his world travels, Mr. Hinchey began his professional career as an assistant attorney general for the State of Georgia in Atlanta, GA from 1968 to 1972. While working there, he received two memorable pieces of advice: never put anything in writing that you would not want to read in the newspaper and if you miss a deadline to the court do not offer an excuse, offer your resignation.

Beyond all of these degrees, Mr. Hinchey was admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court in 1970, the Georgia Supreme Court in 1965, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in 1968, and the United States Middle District Court of Georgia in 1968. In addition, he became certified to practice in the United States Northern District Court of Georgia in 1968 and the United States Southern District Court of Georgia in 1968.

An active member in his field, Mr. Hinchey holds membership in a number of prestigious organizations. Since 2001, he has been involved with the American College of Construction Lawyers as past president, secretary, and on the board of governors. In addition, Mr. Hinchey was the chair of the construction law section of the Atlanta Bar Association from 1999 to 2000, a fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers, a fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, and a chair with the Forum on Construction Industry at the American Bar Association.

Furthermore, Mr. Hinchey has been a member of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution, and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Counsel. Other organizations he has been involved in include the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the International Bar Association. As an expert in the field, he has authored approximately 60 works as a contributor to professional journals and an author of numerous books. In addition, Mr. Hinchey has been a speaker, moderator and panelist for approximately 70 lectures, presentations and speeches.

Throughout the years, Mr. Hinchey has been acknowledged for his impressive accomplishments. Since 2005, he has been awarded First Band of Leading Individual Lawyers by Chambers and Partners and, in 2006, he was given the Cornerstone Award by the American Bar Association. Mr. Hinchey was also honored with the Arbitration Lawyer of the Year Award by the Best Lawyers in America in Washington, D.C. in 2012.

More recently, in 2014, Mr. Hinchey was named one of the Top 500 Lawyers in the World by International Finance. Likewise, he was presented with the Arbitration Lawyer of the Year Award from the Best Lawyers in America in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Hinchey has previously been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
