Dr. Lusch began his career in 1968 as president of Berks Hematology-Oncology Associates in Reading, Pennsylvania. Following this appointment, he became the chief of medical oncology and hematology at the Reading Hospital & Medical Center in 1970. In 1973, Dr. Lusch served as director of the Apheresis Center at Reading Hospital & Medical Center.

After this opportunity, Dr. Lusch held the position of vice president of Lusch Motor Parts in Lehighton, Pennsylvania in 1975. From 1980 to 1985, he was active as the medical director for the Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. During this time, Dr. Lusch also consulted at the Community General Hospital in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1980, St. Joseph Hospital in Reading, PA, Good Samaritan Hospital in Pottsville, PA, and Pottstown (PA) Memorial Hospital.

In 1986, Dr. Lusch continued his career with the Reading Hospital & Medical Center as assistant chief of medicine and chairman of the institutional review board. He maintained involvement with the Reading Hospital & Medical Center in 1987 as the director of continuing medical education. Dr. Lusch also contributed to the Berks Visiting Nurse Association in Reading, Pennsylvania as medical director in 1987.

Dr. Lusch was further associated with the Reading Hospital & Medical Center in 1990 as director of oncology services. From 2008 to 2012, he was director of the Regional Cancer Center. From 2013 to 2015, he acted as a consultant for the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Lusch has been medical director at Home Health Care Management Inc. since 2015.

In addition to his career, Dr. Lusch was active as a lieutenant commander with the United States Public Health Service from 1965 to 1967. He became a senior clinical instructor at Hahnemann University Medical College, now known as the Drexel University College of Medicine, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1968. From 1975 to 1990, he served as principal investigator for the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. In 1975, he also consulted at the Pottsville Hospital, now known as the Shuylkill Regional Medical Center, and the Good Samaritan Hospital in Pennsylvania as a consultant. Since 2003, Dr. Lusch was employed as a clinical professor of medicine at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Lusch received his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1957. Following this achievement, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1961. He is a diplomate in medical oncology, hematology, internal medicine and forensic medicine. Dr. Lusch is also a diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Medicine and a fellow of the College of American Physicians. He is also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha academic honor societies.

Dr. Lusch worked for the Medical Protective Group in Fort Wayne, Indiana as a malpractice consultant in 1985, and in 1986, he was associated with the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project. In 1987, he was on the medical advisory committee for Highmark Blue Shield in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. After this opportunity, he was a clinical associate professor at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 1990, and following this appointment, he served as clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. Dr. Lusch is also a regular contributor of articles to professional journals and was the editor of the Medical Record from 1970 to 1971.

Dr. Lusch was an advisor for the Future Physicians of America in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1965 and served on the board of directors for the Berks County unit of the American Cancer Society from 1968 to 1978. He was associated with the Keystone Community Blood Bank in Reading, Pennsylvania from 1970 to 1980 and on the advisory committee for the Women's Health Center at Reading Hospital & Medical Center from 1987 to 1988. He has been board member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Chicago, Illinois and president of the church council of the Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. In 2005, Dr. Lusch was president of the board of directors for the Reading Symphony Orchestra, and since 2013, he has belonged to the board of the Foundation for the Reading Public Museum.

Dr. Lusch is a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and has been part of the commission on continuing medical education since 2007. He also belongs to the Pennsylvania Society of Oncology and Hematology and held the position of secretary of the treasury from 1986 to 1987. Since 1989, he has been on the publications committee for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Lusch is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Federation of Medical Research, USA Dance Inc., and the Sports Car Club of America.

Dr. Lusch was awarded the Bryant Prize as an undergraduate at Lafayette College and the Merck Award in medical school at Temple University. He was recipient of the Voluntary Service Award from the Berks County Medical Society and the first Local Physician Award from the Berks Visiting Nurse Association. Dr. Lusch was named Local Hero by the Susan G. Komen Foundation and was honored with the Pioneer in Oncology Award from Citadel Academy.

Dr. Lusch also received a Yearbook Dedication from the School of Health Science at Reading Hospital & Medical Center. Additionally, he has established multiple regional cancer services and led the development of formal clinical research in oncology and hematology. He is currently vice chair of the Pennsylvania Hemophilia Program. Dr. Lusch has previously been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
