Now retired, Dr. Ro most recently worked as a long-time professor in accounting at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, from 1976 to 2015. Prior to this role, he was a professor at Seoul National University in his native country of the Republic of Korea from 1968 to 1972. He has also been a controller with Carlsons Bakeries & Supplies Inc. in Oakland, CA from 1971 to 1972, as well as a visiting professor at a number of educational institutions around the world including University of California, Berkeley, Claremont McKenna College, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and Yeungnam University. Dr. Ro went from someone living in a remote farm village to a college student living a big dream, which was a turning point for him.
Dr. Ro earned a Bachelor of Arts from Yeungnam University in Taegu, Republic of Korea in 1963. He then received a Master of Arts from Seoul National University in 1965, before coming as a student to the United States in 1969. There, he received a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley in 1971. Dr. Ro went on to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy from Michigan State University in 1976.
After graduating, Dr. Ro became involved in a number of roles with many professional journals. He was the author of one book, "Information Economics and Accounting," published in Korea in 1984 and was on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review from 1985 to 1988 and the Korean Accounting Journal from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Ro has also been a researcher for countless journals such as The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting Horizon, the Journal of Accounting & Public Policy, and the British Accounting Review, among others.
Dr. Ro was the two-time director of the Accounting PhD Program at the Krannert School of Management of Purdue University from 1982 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 2003. He was also the president of the Korean-American Accounting Professors Association from 1989 to 1992. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to his field including an Outstanding Alumni Award from Yeungnam University in 2004, a Faculty Service Award from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in 2013, and a Scholarly Achievement and Contribution Award from the Korean Accounting Association in 2013. Dr. Ro is listed in four editions of Who's Who in America.
