Carolyn Courtney is a certified elementary and secondary library teacher, and was awarded a scholarship from Delta Kappa Gamma prior to the start of her first graduate program.

Ms. Courtney worked as a long-time librarian within the Hale Center Independent School District in Hale Center, TX, from 1977 to 2012. Previously, she was a fifth grade teacher within the aforementioned school district from 1970 to 1977. She was inspired to become a teacher because of the great teachers she had growing up. Every year when the senior class did their term papers, she would help them with the resources and she would see the papers come together. She felt really proud of all of her students that came in each year. Aside from her professional roles, she has also been on the board of directors for Plainview Community Concerts since 2000.

Ms. Courtney earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX, in 1969, graduating summa cum laude. Some years later, she graduated with a Master of Education from West Texas A&M University, formerly known as West Texas State College, in Canyon, TX, in 1976. She went on to obtain a Master of Library Science from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, in 1990. She is a certified elementary and secondary library teacher, and was awarded a scholarship from Delta Kappa Gamma prior to the start of her first graduate program.

In conjunction with her educational career, Ms. Courtney has been a member of a variety of organizations in her field. She was the board director of the League of Women Voters from 1970 to 1975 and the research chair of Delta Kappa Gamma from 1975 to 1977. She then became the good citizen chair of the Daughters of the American Revolution from 1981 to 1985, the secretary of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association from 1983 to 1985, and the publications chair of Delta Kappa Gamma from 1984 to 1986. Years later, she was promoted to vice president of Delta Kappa Gamma from 2006 to 2008 and has been its president since 2002. Concurrently, she became vice regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution from 2008 to 2010 and was promoted to regent from 2010 to 2012, and was also vice president of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century from 2013 to 2015. She is listed in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
