With five decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Sambur is a highly esteemed engineer and executive who currently serves as chief executive officer of Raptor Consulting, which he founded in 2006. In 2001, Dr. Sambur was nominated by President Bush and confirmed by the Senate as the Assistant Secretary for Acquisitions and Research for the United States Air Force with an annual budget of $40B and responsibilities for the development of such important projects at the time as the F22 and JTF aircrafts and the Predator Drones.

Dr. Sambur began his career as a technology staff member for Bell Laboratories. In 1977, he became a senior vice president of ITT's Defense Communications Division. In 1988, Dr. Sambur was promoted to president and general manager of ITT's Electron Technology division before earning the same position with the Aerospace/Communications division. During his tenure, he was responsible for the development of the weather instruments aboard the GOES Satellite, which at the time was the primary satellite used for detecting and tracking hurricanes, and responsible for the electronic payload for the GPS system which is an indispensable part of our daily lives. In 1998, Dr. Sambur was named chief executive officer of ITT Defense (acquired in 2015 by Harris) with annual revenues of over $2B and nearly 8000 employees.

Over the course of his tenure at Bell Laboratories, Dr. Sambur has published over 20 papers in refereed journals and was the recipient of several patents in the fields of artificial intelligence, speech recognition, and speaker verification. He served on the Corporate Board of Directors of FARO Technology and 5 International Special Security Boards from 2006 to 2018, and spent 10 years in the prestigious position as Professor of the Practice at the Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland.

Prior to embarking on his prodigious career, Dr. Sambur received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the City College of New York in 1968. He continued his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he earned a Master of Electrical Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering in 1969 and 1972, respectively.

Dr. Sambur is a Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the Acoustical Society of America, Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi. He has been the recipient of numerous honors, including the Leadership Award from the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment in 1994, the Centennial Award for Outstanding Leadership from the IEEE in 2000, and two Civilian Awards from the United States Air Force. In 2012, he garnered the Career Achievement Award from the City College of New York, of which he is also in the Athletic Hall of Fame. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Sambur was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America.
