Since 2015, Dr. Lev has been a Professor Emeritus at the College of Nursing, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in Newark, NJ. Before her retirement, Dr. Lev was a Professor in the College of Nursing. Previously Dr. Lev was a professor at the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY. Beginning in 1973, she was an adjunct professor at Norwalk Community College, Norwalk, Ct.

As a child, Dr. Lev had a favorite aunt who was a nurse, and from the age of five, she decided that nursing would be her path. When she got older, she pursued a formal education at Adelphi College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1962. She continued her studies at Columbia University and obtained a Master of Arts in teaching, a Master of Education in teaching, and a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction in 1986. Ultimately, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychosocial oncology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, from 1988 to 1990.

Now, an accomplished professional and author, Dr. Lev has written over 30 peer-reviewed articles in professional publications as well as several chapters in text books. In 1996 she and Dr. Steven V. Owen developed a tool to measure strategies used by people to promote health, which was created to measure self-care self-efficacy. The definition, measurement, outcomes and implications of self-care self-efficacy was described in a paper published by the International Journal of Nursing Knowledge.

Dr. Lev and colleagues also created a shortened instrument to measure grief which was published in the International Journal of Nursing Studies. Each tool was used by researchers in the United States as well as more than 20 other countries. Dr. Lev recognized the pinnacle of her career in 2013, when she presented her research in China and Israel, and was fascinated by the ways different cultures used the research tools that she developed.

Dr. Lev served as the principal investigator of R01: Efficacy Interventions to Promote Research Careers, which was funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences in 2008. Dr. Lev's research was also funded by the National Cancer Institute, as well as various foundations.

While at Rutgers, Dr. Lev received a grant to teach graduate nursing at the only baccalaureate nursing school in Haiti. She also co-founded what is now the Hospice Care for Southwest Connecticut. She holds membership in the American Nurses Association, where she was an adult psychiatric mental health clinical specialist. She is also a member of the Council of Nurse Researchers and Sigma Theta Tau. The Nursing Education Alumni Association at Teachers College, Columbia University, named her to the Hall of Fame and presented her with the Achievement Award for Nursing Scholarship and Research in 2011. She was also named Distinguished Lecturer from Sigma Theta Tau.

She has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
