In addition, he served as an advisor and director of Ellison Grandchildren Trust from 1996 to 2009 and director of Benefit Planners, Inc., from 1997 to 2001. Beginning in 1974 he worked at Cullen Frost Bankers, Inc., as executive vice president until 1985, at which point he became president until 1997 and director until 2010.
Prior to taking these positions, Mr. McClane was with Frost National Bank in San Antonio, TX, from 1962 to 1997 and with Ford Motor Company in Detroit, MI, from 1961 to 1962. In addition, he was on the board of directors for numerous organizations, including CCI Telecom, Inc., from 2004 to 2006, Prodigy Communications in 2001, Princeton eCom Corporation from 1996 to 2006, and Frost National Bank in San Antonio, TX, from 1987 to 2010.
Mr. McClane's academic pursuits began at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1961. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Army, where he was a commissioned officer. While he was on active duty, the Berlin Wall came down, extending his service. Upon returning, he retroactively found inspiration in a banking professor of his from Trinity University. This ultimately led him to his career with Frost National Bank.
Over the years, Mr. McClane's civic involvement has been extensive. Since 1990, he has been on the board of trustees at Trinity University, and from 2001 to 2004, he was chairman of the board. From 1987 to 1989, he was a trustee at the Alamo Public Telecommunications Council in San Antonio, TX. Additionally, he was the senior warden of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in San Antonio, TX, in 1980, crusade chairman of the Bexar County chapter of the American Cancer Society in 1974, on the board of directors at the Bexar County American Red Cross from 1969 to 1972, and chairman of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, 1987-1989.
As an active member of the academic community, Mr. McClane holds membership with myriad organizations. Since 1997, he has been a trustee of the Southwest Research Institute. He was the chairman of the Free Trade Alliance of San Antonio from 1998 to 2000 and the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce in 1996, and chairman of leadership with the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. He was a founder of Leadership San Antonio (1975), a continuing program of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, dedicated to bringing together persons of proven leadership ability from across diverse ethnic, cultural and interest backgrounds.
Mr. McClane also holds membership with the San Antonio German Club and the Order of the Alamo. Furthermore, he is a member of the Texas Cavaliers, the Argyle Club and Club Giraud. For his accomplishments and service, Mr. McClane was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Trinity University Distinguished Alumni Award in 1987.
