An accomplished listee, Dr. Merkel-Keller celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

The former assistant director for the New Jersey State Department of Labor in Trenton, NJ, Dr. Merkel-Keller retired in 2013 after nine years of service. Her previous 34 years of service included 28 years with the New Jersey Department of Education as an assistant director, acting director, director and planning associate between 1977 and 2004 and as a research assistant between 1972 and 1973. As a non-native speaker of English, she took great pride in her work.

A lecturer in her field, Dr. Merkel-Keller has also contributed multiple articles to professional journals during her tenure. She formerly served as a consultant for the National Prevention Evaluation and as an advisory panel member for the Resource Network Northeast Region Education Laboratory Evaluation Program. She was also a representative for the Van Holten Parent Teacher Organization in Bridgewater, NJ, and was on the board of trustees for the Far Hills Country Day Schools.

Dr. Merkel-Keller is a longstanding member of the American Psychological Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the American Education Research Association and the National Council Measurement in Education. She is also active with the Steinway Society and has been affiliated with several sororities.

The recipient of a Distinguished Service Award from the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University in 1991, Dr. Merkel-Keller also received a Woman's Award from the Boy Scouts of America. She has been cited in several editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who of American Education.

Dr. Merkel-Keller obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Douglass Residential College in 1970, followed by a Master of Education and Doctor of Education from Rutgers University in 1971 and 1974, respectively. She is a certified elementary and secondary mathematics teacher and certified supervisor, principal and administrator in the state of New Jersey.

Born in Viernheim, Germany, Dr. Merkel-Keller moved to the United States with her family in 1952 when she was just four years old. She later married her husband Walter J. Keller Jr. in 1970. She is the proud mother of one daughter, Jessica V. Merkel-Keller, MD. Enjoying her retirement, Dr. Merkel-Keller likes to stay active by skiing and swimming. She also loves to read and travel internationally.
