Richard Carey considers the highlight of his career to have been assisting with the Saigon evacuation in 1975 as a brigadier general, having helped lead people to freedom.

With nearly 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Carey served as an administrator for Dallas District Courts from 1990 to 1994, having held the same positions with Columbus International Airport from 1987 to 1988. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was a member of the Ohio Governor's Cabinet from 1983 to 1987. Earlier in his career, Mr. Carey was a member of the United States Marine Corps for nearly 38 years, retiring as a commanding general.

Initially intending to pursue a career in medicine, Mr. Carey grew up in an impoverished environment with his father following his parents' divorce. During World War II, he wanted to join the war effort, but he had to wait until after high school. He first joined the V5 program with the intent of using the G.I. Bill to later attend medical school, but when he enlisted he became involved in the Korean War, and due to his exemplary service, was offered to become an officer. In 1971, Mr. Carey earned a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, from George Washington University. He is certified as a Naval Aviator.

A respected voice in the field, Mr. Carey has been affiliated with numerous organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He is the head and the founding trustee of the Dallas Metroplex Military Charitable Trust, the leader of development and completion of the Chosin Few Monument at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, helped plan and develop the Dallas/Ft Worth National Cemetery with its Vietnam War Memorial and was the lead advisor and assistant head in the development of the Dallas Fisher House.

Mr. Carey credits much of his success to his mentors, including the late staff sergeant Jerry Tillman, Marine Raider Lou Walt, first sergeant James Gillis, and Medal of Honor recipient Louis Wilson. Throughout his career, Mr. Carey has been recognized for his contributions. He received 28 awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, a Silver Star, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Legion of Merit Awards with Combat V, two Bronze Stars with Combat V, 16 Air Medals, a Single Mission Air Medal, the Purple Heart, and three Presidential Unit citations. He considers the highlight of his career to have been assisting with the Saigon evacuation in 1975 as a brigadier general, having helped lead people to freedom. In his free time, Mr. Caret enjoys watching boxing and football, bicycle racing, competing in triathlons, and running in marathons.
