Recognized by the NASW as a Social Work Pioneer in 2015, Wayne D. Duehn was previously awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the organization's Texas-Fort Worth area branch in 2010.

Dr. Duehn is a professor emeritus of social work at the University of Texas at Arlington. First joining the faculty in 1970 as an associate professor and chairman of clinical practice work in the graduate school of social work, he later became a full professor in 1979. Retiring in 2008, he has recently focused his efforts on clinical research of sexually abusive parents and juvenile sex offenders.

In the field, Dr. Duehn has been serving as the longtime director and clinician for the Marriage and Family Therapy Counseling Association in Arlington since 1970. A former research associate at the Masters and Johnson Institute in St. Louis, he also spent time in Chicago as a social work supervisor for the Institute for Juvenile Research, a research assistant at the Illinois State Pediatric Institute and in 1963 he was a caseworker at the Chicago State Hospital. He also taught briefly at the University of Hawaii, and has been an adjunct faculty member of the United States Army Academy of Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston in Texas since 1988. Additionally, he has been in the criminal investigative division of the United States Army at Fort Leonardwood in Missouri since 1993.

Dr. Duehn's clinical and research interests include trauma informed practice, child and vulnerable adult sexual abuse, adoption and foster care, human sexuality, and sex offender assessment and treatment. He has written extensively, authoring dozens of articles in academic publications such as Adoption Today, the Journal of Sex Education and Therapy and the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry on various topics. He has also presented his research findings at the International Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect, the World Congress of Medical Sexology and the United Nations Conference Facilities.

A national lecturer and trainer, Dr. Duehn conducted a workshop at the 44th annual conference of the North American Council on Adoptable Children in St. Paul, Minn. in 2018. He has also conducted training seminars for the United States Military medical personnel in England, Germany, Guam, Iceland, Japan, Italy, Korea, Panama and the Philippines. He has consulted for multiple organizations, including the Department of the Army's criminal investigative division, the Office of the Attorney General for the State of Texas and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association.

An elected fellow of the American Orthopsychiatric Association, Dr. Duehn is also a longtime member of the American Psychological Association, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy. He is also a member and former U.S. representative of the World Congress of Medical Sexology.

Well-known for developing a child abuse prevention program for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Dr. Duehn notably authored the 1989 book "Beyond Sexual Abuse: The Healing Power of Adoptive Families," and co-founded Praesidium, Inc., an abuse risk management firm for organizations. Additionally, he is an organizational abuse risk management consultant to the Leadership Academy of South Sudan.

Recognized by the NASW as a Social Work Pioneer in 2015, Dr. Duehn was previously awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the organization's Texas-Fort Worth area branch in 2010. He was named an Outstanding Alumni by North Central College in 2012 and was named Extraordinary Alum by Loyola University in 2011. Furthermore, Dr. Duehn was named a Distinguished Visiting Professor by the United States Army and United States Department of the Air Force, and was a four-time recipient of a Fernando G. Torgerson Award for Teaching Excellence by the University of Texas at Arlington. In August 2017, he was honored with a feature in the Voyage Dallas Magazine.

Dr. Duehn has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare. He holds an undergraduate degree from North Central College, a Master of Social Work from Loyola University and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology and social work from Washington University. Dr. Duehn additionally garnered credentials from the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
