Maxine Currie McNeill, MPH, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mrs. McNeill retired from the healthcare industry after nearly 40 years in the field. The former nurse practitioner at Health Care Connections in Raeford, NC, between 2001 and 2002, she also served in the same capacity for the Bladen County Health Department, Richmond OBGYN, the Laurinburg Surgical Clinic, the Scotland County Health Department and the Carolina Eye Clinic in Pinehurst, NC. She also held a number of other roles during her tenure, including nursing supervisor for the Richmond County Health Department and the Scotland County Health Department, school nurse in the Richmond County School District and staff nurse at Richmond Memorial Hospital and Scotland Memorial Hospital. Mrs. McNeill established home health agencies in Richmond and Scotland Counties as well.

A longtime member of the American Nurses Association, the North Carolina Nurses Association, the North Carolina Public Health Association, the North Carolina Association of Local Health Directors and the North Carolina District V Perinatal Association, Mrs. McNeill was also an active member in the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery County and served as an Elder in Trey Presbyterian Church. She volunteered for several years at a local hospice during the mid-to-late 1990s. Since retirement she has served as Elder in Mark's Creek Presbyterian Church in Hamlet and on the Board of Directors for Richmond County Hospice.

Earning a Diploma at the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, Mrs. McNeill returned to college years later to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Wingate College in 1986 and Master's Degree in Public Health Policy and Administration at the University of North Carolina in 1991. She completed the requirements for Nurse Practitioner Certification at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, in 1984 and is certified in Women's Ambulatory Health Care. She received an award from the Charlotte chapter of the North Carolina Nurses' Association for Outstanding BSN Completion Student at the completion of her BSN studies at Wingate University.

She has since been included in Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who of American Women. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society upon completion of her undergraduate degree. In her free time, she loves to read, dance, go boating, do needlecraft, play cards and work with stained glass. She also loves spending quality time with friends. Born in Rockingham, NC, Mrs. McNeill was married to James A. McNeill for many years until his passing. She has four wonderful children and four grandchildren.
