Linda Diane Sykes Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    INDIANAPOLIS, IN, October 24, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Linda Diane Sykes with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Sykes celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. A compassionate educator with more than three decades of professional experience, Ms. Sykes served as an elementary music educator at the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township in Indianapolis from 1986 until her retirement from the industry in 2008. Prior to this position, she was a music teacher for kindergarten through 12th grade at Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson United School Corporation from 1974 to 1986. Ms. Sykes began her career as an elementary music teacher at Jac-Cen-Del Community School Corporation from 1972 to 1973.

Alongside her primary endeavors, Ms. Sykes has remained a member of P.E.O. She was previously the Indianapolis Alumnae chapter president of Sigma Alpha Iota from 1984 to 1988 and from 1999 to 2000, as well as a vestry member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church from 2006 to 2009. Notably, Ms. Sykes has been a board member and president of the Sounds Hope Alumni Association.

Inspired to delve into the realm of teaching from a young age, Ms. Sykes pursued a formal education at the University of Evansville, earning a Bachelor of Music Education in 1972. While attending the university, she was initiated into Sigma Alpha Iota and Mortar Board. She subsequently attended Butler University in 1976, graduating with a Master of Music in 1976. Ms. Sykes has been certified as a K-12 music teacher.

Attributing her success to two of her mentors, Patricia Meurer and Varner Chance, Ms. Sykes notes the highlight of her career to be the gratitude she receives from her former students, who detail the importance of Ms. Sykes' teaching in their formative years and how it has affected them growing up. From 1993 to 1999, she was the founding president of the Indiana Kodály Educators. She was Midwest Division president of the Organization of American Kodály Education from 2003 to 2005. Ms. Sykes also maintained affiliation with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association, where she also served as vice president of education from 2014 to 2016.

Married to Gregory Allen Sykes since 1973, Ms. Sykes is the proud mother of two children, Amanda Ruth and Bryan Paul. A native of Indianapolis, she enjoys traveling, reading and crafting in her spare time.
