MADISON, WI, October 25, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Angelo Collins, OP, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Sister Collins celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Teaching for nearly 50 years, Sister Collins left academia as an associate dean and lecturer in education in the School of Education and Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University in 2016. Teaching on campus for three years and serving as a visiting professor for two years prior, she formerly spent one year as an Elizabeth and Thomas Taft endowed professor in science education at East Carolina University from 2012 to 2013. She also taught at Vanderbilt University, Florida State University, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Stanford University and Kansas State University between 1986 and 2011, was a research assistant at the University of Wisconsin between 1981 and 1986 and taught high school biology in various schools in Wisconsin for 14 years beginning in 1966. Furthermore, Sister Collins notably was the founding executive director of the Janet H. and C. Harry Knowles Science Teaching Foundation in Moorestown, NJ, between 2000 and 2011. Now a fully functioning foundation that started in Sister Collins' basement, many of the young men and women who were awarded fellowships have gone on to do great things in the world of education.

Sister Collins is currently serving on the Leadership Council for the Congregation of the Most Holy Rosary of the Order of Preachers, better known as the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters. The Congregation, based in Sinsinawa, WI, was founded in 1847.

During her career, Sister Collins served as the director of National Committee on Science Education Standards and Assessment in Washington, DC, was chairman of the advisory board for BioQuest in Beloit, WI, served on the board of directors of the National Association for the Research in Science Teaching, and was co-editor of the organization's journal, the Journal of Research in Science Teaching. Sister Collins was also active as editor of one volume of Teacher Education Quarterly, was an active reviewer for the journals, Science Education and the Journal of Science Teacher Education, and contributed numerous articles to various peer-reviewed journals. She has served on the science committee for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards in Washington, DC, since 1991 and for the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium.

Proud to have been affiliated with the production of the first National Science Education Standards, a huge research and publication project that was produced in 1995, it was a major accomplishment for Sister Collins. She also enjoyed working on a teacher assessment project that was both powerful and important to her. Sister Collins is an elected fellow and member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Educational Research Association. She is a former member of the National Association of Research Science Teaching, the Association of Education Teachers of Science and the American Educational Research Association, among others, and was a member and an Outstanding Biology Teacher of Wisconsin recipient of the National Association of Biology Teachers in 1977.

Viewing teaching as a very valuable way to make a contribution to society, Sister Collins decided to pursue an advanced degree because she was deeply concerned about how teachers could help raise the profile of the profession. Since her subject of discipline was science, she started out looking at science teachers but then expanded to several other areas. She notably holds a Bachelor of Science from Marian University, Master of Science from Michigan State University and Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin. She was also presented with an honorary doctorate from Edgewood College.

Sister Collins was a Henry Rutgers Fellow at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in 1990 and the recipient of a Development Scholar Award from Florida State University from 1993 to 1994. She has been showcased in more than 20 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Angelo Collins, OP, Ph.D., has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
