Kurt Molholm Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Amassing more than four decades of professional excellence in the field of defense technology, Mr. Molholm most recently served as the administrator of the Defense Technical Information Center from 1985 until his retirement from the industry in 2005. Prior to this illustrious role, he served the Defense Logistics Agency in several capacities, including as the chief of automated data processing and technology in the technology division from 1984 to 1985, chief of the planning and policy office from 1975 to 1976, and as a computer specialist in the Administrative Support Center from 1963 to 1965.

Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Molholm has been serving the International Council of Science and Technology Information since 1993, having formerly been the president from 2001 to 2004, chair of the editorial board from 1999 to 2001, and treasurer from 1998 to 2001. He considers this work to have been one of the highlights of his career. A consultant in the field since 2006, he was previously the president of the National Federation of Abstracting and Information Services from 1993 to 1994, having been treasurer from 1990 to 1993, and delegate of the Virginia Governors Conference Libraries Information Services in 1990. In addition, he was vice chairman of the Library and Information Center Committee from 1992 to 1993 and from 2002 to 2003, chairman of the CENDI Group from 1991 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2001, and a member of the Handle Systems Advisory Committee from 2001 to 2005, among other prominent roles.

To prepare for his career, Mr. Molholm pursued formal education at the University of Oregon, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1959. He subsequently entered in the United States Army as a second lieutenant after serving for 34 years. He joined the Department of Defense, where his first job was to buy computers for the department. He attended George Washington University, receiving a Master of Science. He also attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, graduating in 1974.

As a testament to his professional success, Mr. Molholm has accrued several accolades. The recipient of the Meritorious Award from the William A. Jump Memorial Foundation in 1973, he also received the Exceptional Civilian Service Award from the Defense Logistics Agency in 1985, as well as the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the agency in 1991. He was also honored with the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the Defense Information Systems Agency in 2005.

Married to Sonja Dell Williams since 1967, Mr. Molholm is a native of Denver, CO, and has two sons, Kevin and Paul. In his spare time, he enjoys singing and playing cards and sports.
