Mr. DiFonzo has served as the president of Planar Communications Corporation in Rockville, MD, since 1989. In this capacity he has provided technical consulting services to leading organizations in the field of satellite communications technology, with emphasis on satellite payload antenna systems and has contributed to innovations and advances in the technology of mobile satellite phased array terminals. He began his career as a development engineer at American Electronic Laboratories in Colmar, PA, from 1962 to 1966. Following this, he became a senior engineer at Bunker-Ramo Corporation in Canoga Park, CA, from 1966 to 1969and a technical staff member of COMSAT Laboratories in Clarksburg, MD, from 1969 to 1977. He then served as the director of the Antenna and Propagation Laboratory at COMSAT Laboratories from 1981 to 1983 before becoming the associate director of the corporation's microwave technology division. He became senior director of corporate development for the Communications Satellite Corporation in Washington, DC, for one year, and subsequently returned to COMSAT Laboratories as its vice president and assistant director from 1985 to 1986. Mr. DiFonzo went on to become vice president and general manager of Communications Satellite Corporation Systems Division from 1987 to 1989.

Mr. DiFonzo earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Villanova University in 1962. He went on to obtain a Master of Science in engineering from California State University, Northridge, in 1972. He served on the National Research Council Panel Assessment of the National Institute of Standards and Technology Programs from 1987 to 1993.. He has also been the vice president of the Rock Creek Valley Elementary School PTA from 1973 to 1974 and an alternate representative of the Industrial Research Institute from 1985 to 1989. In addition, he has contributed many scientific papers, chapters to book, and short courses throughout his career.

Mr. DiFonzo has patents for interference reduction circuit, phased array antennas, and mobile satellite antennas. He is a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and was the chairman of the Washington chapter of the Antennas and Propagation Society from 1981 to 1982. He was on the IEEE communications and information policy committee from 1987 to 1990. He is a member of the IEEE Communications Society, and he is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was awarded the COMSAT Innovation Award, and he is listed in the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America and three editions of Who's Who in the East.
