William W. Parmley is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and master of the American College of Cardiology, where he was president from 1985 to 1986.

Dr. Parmley began his career as an intern at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland from 1963 to 1964. After this opportunity, he worked as a resident in medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1964 to 1965. From 1965 to 1967, Dr. Parmley served as a clinical associate at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and from 1967 to 1969, he was active as a fellow in cardiology at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Parmley held the position of associate director of cardiology at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California from 1969 to 1973. He contributed to the Moffitt-Long Hospital in conjunction with the University of California, San Francisco as chief of cardiology from 1974 to 1997. Dr. Parmley concluded his career as a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco from 1974 to 2003.

Prior to embarking on his professional path, Dr. Parmley received his Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Harvard College in 1957. Following this accomplishment, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University in 1963. Dr. Parmley is also certified in cardiology and internal medicine.

In addition to his primary responsibilities, Dr. Parmley served with the United States Public Health Service from 1965 to 1967. He worked for the American Heart Association as an established investigator from 1971 to 1974 as well as for the American Board of Internal Medicine as chair of cardiovascular boards from 1985 to 1987. He previously held the role of editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology from 1992 to 2002. Likewise, Dr. Parmley has contributed 300 articles to professional journals.

Dr. Parmley is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and master of the American College of Cardiology, where he was president from 1985 to 1986. He is also a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, the Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He was appointed to the post of bishop in the Mormon Church from 1977 to 1982, where he later served as stake president from 1986 to 1992, regional representative from 1992 to 1995, area authority from 1995 to 2001 and general authority seventy from 2003 to 2010. Dr. Parmley has previously been selected for inclusion in the 20th edition of Who's Who in the West, the 1st edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, the 5th edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and multiple editions of Who's Who in America.
