Earlier in his career, Mr. Crittenden held various positions with the Gulf Oil Corporation in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Venezuela.

Mr. Crittenden began his career as a student at the Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1947. He subsequently completed postgraduate work with various professional development programs. A member of the American Petroleum Institute, he is also a former section chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering. An active leader in his community, Mr. Crittenden also previously served as president of the Port Arthur, TX, School Board.

Renowned for his work in automation, Mr. Crittenden holds a joint patent with Petrolite Chemicals. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his contributions, including having earned the Certificate of Appreciation from the American Petroleum Institute, Citizens Award from the Sons of the American Revolution and the National Points of Light Lifetime Award. Mr. Crittenden has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
