A highly esteemed educator with nearly 40 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Schumm currently serves as a professor at Kansas State University, a position he has held since 1990. He joined Kansas State University in 1979 as an assistant professor and was named associate professor in 1984.
Dr. Schumm earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from the College of William & Mary in 1972, Master of Science in family and child development from Kansas State University in 1976, and Doctor of Philosophy in family studies from Purdue University in 1979. He is certified as a family life educator by the National Council on Family Relations.
A fellow of the National Council on Family Relations, Dr. Schumm was previously a member of the Army Research Institute's scientific advisory committee from 1987 to 1990. He has also contributed numerous articles to professional journals.
From 1972 to 2002, Dr. Schumm served in the United States Army Reserve and the United States Army National Guard, which included a year's mobilization during Operation Desert Shield/Storm from 1990 to 1991. He was also a member of the United States Army from 1972 to 1974. Dr. Schumm was the recipient of a Decorated Legion of Merit from the United States Armed Forces. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Schumm was selected for inclusion in the third edition of Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals and the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the Midwest, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education.
