During his many years he held a number of different roles, including industrial relations representative in Dubuque, IA, manager of personnel at the Parts Distribution Center in Milan, IL, and at the corporate level in Moline, IL, as director of affirmative action, director of general office personnel and administration, and director of community relations. At the time of his retirement, he held positions of director of corporate citizenship and president of the John Deere Foundation. Additionally, he has gained valuable experience as executive director of Project NOW (Neighborhood Outreach Work), as chair of the human rights commission in Dubuque, IA, commissioner with the Iowa civil rights commission, chair of the Private Industry Council (PIC) of the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA), chair of the human rights & employment practices committee with the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI), president of the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, and president of the Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout his career, Mr. Collins has been honored many times, earning the Sam Walton Business Leader of the Year Award through the Illinois Quad City Chamber of Commerce, Joseph R. Larson (employment opportunities to persons with disabilities) through the state of Illinois, Distinguished Service to Philanthropy through the Association of Fundraising Professionals of the Quad Cities Area and the Charles Toney Business Award through Urban Professionals Group of the Quad Cities, as well as many others. Additionally, he has been recognized with inclusion in Who's Who Among Black Americans, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in Society, and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. Looking toward the future, Mr. Collins intends to continue enjoying his retirement, family, church and community service.
An expert in his field, Mr. Collins holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from St. Ambrose University (Davenport, IA) which he earned in 1969. He also received an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters, in service to human rights and equal opportunity from that university in 2016.
