Mr. Mudry has worked as a self-employed pension and benefit consultant and actuary in Wayne, PA, since 1994. Prior to this role, he held a long-term position as the senior vice president of Hay/Huggins Company, Inc., in Philadelphia, PA, from 1956 to 1993. He has also been an actuary for the Church Pensions Conference, is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and is a member of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. In addition, he has served as the treasurer of the executive board of the St. Davids Park Condominium Association since 2005 and a member of the board of directors and actuary of the American Council on Gift Annuities in Smyrna, GA, since 1978.
Prior to pursuing an education, Mr. Mudry enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, in 1951. He was good at mathematics in high school, and went on to college and initially majored in bookkeeping. He was hitchhiking back to the University of Connecticut and got a ride. They were discussing his studies, and he mentioned that he was a mathematician. The driver said he could be an actuary, and he asked him what that was. He explained it was a mathematician who dealt in probabilities. He looked it up and thought there were too many people in the bookkeeping industry, so he switched to mathematics as a major and then went on to become an actuary.
The church work Mr. Mudry did was extremely important to have all the ministers and lay employees have coverage. It is an important group of people, and he was just happy to be involved. He has also been involved with a number of organizations related to his field. He is a fan of traditional jazz and has been the treasurer and on the board of directors for the Tri-State Jazz Society since 2001, and has also been a member of the International Association of Consulting Actuaries, the International Actuarial Association, and the American Academy of Actuaries. Furthermore, he has contributed articles to professional journals and is listed in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
