An accomplished listee, Dr. Bourne-Busby celebrates many years of experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Bourne-Busby retired in 2013 as principal of Bryant Elementary School having been an elementary school educator with the public school district of Teaneck, New Jersey since 1992. From 1986 to 1992, she was an elementary school principal for the St. Anthony of Padua School of Passaic, NJ and worked as an elementary school teacher for the New York City Board of Education from 1984 to 1986. Earlier in her career, Dr. Bourne-Busby was recruited by the Trinidad and Tobago Metrication Board to serve as the Metric Education specialist from 1977 to 1982, to assist in that country's change-over to the Metric System.

Dr. Bourne-Busby was inspired to pursue a career in the education industry from an early age, having come from a family of Caribbean educators. She is a certified teacher, supervisor and administrator in the states of New Jersey and New York and earned a Doctor of Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 1997. Her work as an innovative educator was recognized by the Montclair State University Network for Educational Renewal as a Dodge Project Grantee. She was also invited to present her successful disciplinary program "Becoming Self-Smart" at Oxford University, England, in 1974. Elise's program was inspired by Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences. She has been featured in numerous honors publications including the 25th and 26th editions of Who's Who of American Women. More recently, in 2014, the Bryant School Library was renamed the Dr. Elise Bourne-Busby Library.

On a personal note Dr. Bourne-Busby is an 18-year breast cancer survivor and one of the founding members of the community organization called More Than Friends Inc. Members service cancer survivors by visiting and delivering sharing and caring baskets to them during their recuperation. Because of the significant work of More Than Friends, Dr. Bourne-Busby has been recognized for her contributions with many community service awards, including from Phi Delta Kappa, Caribbean organizations, St Joseph's Health, NJ, county, senate and general assembly citations, special congressional recognition from Congressman Bill Pascrell, and most recently, in October 2018, a letter from New Jersey's present Governor Philip D. Murphy.

Dr. Bourne-Busby is the proud mother of three daughters, Nakeisha, a retired Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard and presently an educator at the Passaic County Technical Institute, NJ; Trinay, Associate Director of Field Education and Instructor at Rutgers University, NJ, and Charisse, teacher, entrepreneur and licensed Occupational Therapist and Learning Consultant at the public school district of Orange, NJ. These three young women have matured into successful and responsible adults under her watchful love and single-parent guidance.
