Dr. Kadohiro is the longtime president and chief executive officer of Diabetes Education and Support Consulting Services. Established in 1991 and inspired by her own lifelong condition of type 1 diabetes, her advocacy work, combined with her many years of teaching and working in the field, have been truly inspirational. Serving as the education program coordinator and diabetics educator at The Queens Medical Center from 2009 to 2013 and as the deputy director of health for the State of Hawaii between 2002 and 2004, Dr. Kadohiro was on faculty at the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene between 1991 and 2009. During her 18 years on campus, she also did extensive work as the chair of the undergraduate curriculum committee in the School Of Nursing, initiated, served and coordinated the undergraduate new student orientation program and was a university writing focus board member, honors council member and awards committee chair. Furthermore, Dr. Kadohiro served in multiple different capacities with the Hawaii State Department of Health between 1978 and 1991.

Serving as a voice for others, Dr. Kadohiro successful initiated seven different diabetes bills in Hawaii state legislature that have since become law. She has also been active in matters of high blood pressure control and other health conditions. She was the recipient of a Keep on Truckin' Award for Advocacy in 2018 and a Volunteers in Action Leadership Award in 2005 from the American Diabetes Association, a Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Diabetes Educators in 2015, the University of Hawaii's Chancellor's Award for meritorious Teaching in 2008, and an Excellence in Practice Award from the Hawaii Nurses Association in 1995, among numerous other teaching and nursing awards.

An active member of over a dozen professional organizations throughout her career, including the American Diabetics Association, the National Certification Board for Diabetic Educators, Hawaii Nurses Association, the American Heart Association and the International Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Diabetes, Dr. Kadohiro most notably served as the national president, first vice president and on the board of directors of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and as president, treasurer and board of directors of the Hawaii Association of Diabetes Educators. She was also a founding member of the Hawaii State Center for Nursing the State Diabetes Control Program. She has also been a leader, advisor and lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America since 1978.

Dr. Kadohiro earned an Associate of Arts in liberal arts and English at Los Angeles Pierce College in 1968, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and education, Bachelor of Science in nursing, Master of Public Health, Master of Science, and Doctor of Public Health at the University of Hawaii between 1969 and 1999. She has been a certified diabetes educator since 1988, an advanced practice registered nurse since 1998, and did postgraduate work at Yale University in 2001.
Married to Howard M. Kadohiro since 1969, Dr. Kadohiro has two children and four grandchildren. Family and special friendships throughout the world have had a huge impact on her personal and professional life. She enjoys traveling in her free time and especially enjoys directing and participating at diabetes camps.
