Ms. Dorshow-Gordon Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Dorshow-Gordon imost recently held the position of epidemiologist for the Jackson County Health Department.

With nearly 50 years of industry experience to her credit, Ms. Dorshow-Gordon is currently retired, having most recently held the position of epidemiologist for the Jackson County Health Department from 2003 to 2017. Prior to this appointment, she served in the same capacity for the Oakland County Health Department and Kalamazoo County Human Services Department. She commenced her career in 1968 as a medical laboratory technologist at Fairview Southdale Hospital and the Ridges Health Center before joining the University of Minnesota Hospital's clinical enzymology research lab as a research technologist.

In 1980, Ms. Dorshow-Gordon was named infection control coordinator at Samaritan Health Center in Detroit. In 1986 she accepted a position at Calgon Vestal Laboratories as an Infection Control Market Sales Specialist. From 1990 to 1995, she held positions in infection control coordinator at Sinai Hospital and Lakes Rehabilitation Hospital. In 1995, she took her first epidemiology post at the Oakland County Health Department and she later held the same positions at the Kalamazoo, MI, and Jackson County (JACOHD), MO Health Departments. During her tenure at JACOHD, Ms. Dorshow-Gordon was also an adjunct Health Care Administration faculty member at Park University from 2011 to 2016, teaching a graduate course in managerial epidemiology. She has also been a preceptor for eight public health graduate students, three public health undergraduate students, and one Centers for Disease Control Public Health Preventions Specialist.

Before embarking on her career path, Ms. Dorshow-Gordon received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Minnesota. She continued her education by enrolling in postgraduate courses at Western Michigan University. In order to remain aware of current developments within the industry, she underwent standardized awareness training at FEMA's Center for Domestic Preparedness in 2010 and became a certified intelligence liaison officer and a Lean Six Sigma yellow belt in 2011. Ms. Dorshow-Gordon also owns certifications in several levels of the FEMA Incident Command System.

Ms. Dorshow-Gordon is currently a member of numerous professional organizations including the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control and Epidemiology, National Organization of Women, National Association of Female Executives and American Public Health Association. She has held leadership positions for the Minnesota Society of Medical Technology, Association for Practitioners in Infection Control and Epidemiology, and Maternal and Child Health Coalition, among others. She previously maintained involvement with the National Sanitation Foundation Task Group, Southeast Michigan Epidemiology Committee and Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists. Outside of her professional responsibilities, Ms. Dorshow-Gordon volunteered for the Minneapolis Board of B'nai Brith Women and was a member of the Detroit American Arab and Jewish Friends.

Ms. Dorshow-Gordon received the Calgon Vestal Executive Directors Award, Calgon Vestal Laboratory Pacesetter Award, and she was the recipient of a University of Minnesota Alumnae Freshman Scholarship. In addition, she was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women, the 4th edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and the 6th edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
