Though he originally planned to go into math and chemistry, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English and became an English teacher with West Las Vegas School District. Dr. Vigil then pursued a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in English and began teaching at the college level at institutions such as the University of Wyoming, New Mexico Highlands University, Wichita State University, Vassar College, Bluefield State College, and Luna Community College.
In addition to teaching various humanities courses, Dr. Vigil has authored and co-authored several books throughout his career.
