With his expertise based on full mouth rehabilitation and general dentistry, Dr. Ligotti has held his own private practice in Huntington, NY, for 30 years; complete with a fulltime staff of six employees, one part-time orthodontist and an associate dentist. His father was a dental technician, he had an uncle who was a physician, and many of his father's friends were professionals. Even at a very young age he realized that he wanted to be a doctor. Working with his father as a part-time dental technician while in college, he then realized that he wanted to be a dentist.

Coming from a musical family, Dr. Ligotti studies piano at The Juilliard School of Music in New York. In his early teens the concert stage beckoned and he took part in many concerts at many concert halls, including Steinway Hall, Town Hall, Carnegie Hall and Juilliard Recital Hall. Pursuing his life's passion, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in pre-med from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY, in 1958. Four years later, he went on to obtain a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the College of Dentistry at New York University. After graduating the dental college asked him to stay on and teach as a clinical professor of Operative Dentistry, which he did for three years.

He was founder and president of the Upper Bay Civic Association in Huntington from 1979 to 2001 and is presently the vice president of the Homeowner's Association in Smithtown. He also founded a chapter of Xi Psi Phi International Dental Fraternity in 1981 at Stony Brook University and has served as a member of numerous organizations related to his field, such as the American Dental Association, the Suffolk County Dental Society and the New York Dental Society, among others. He is presently the clinical director of Health Star Dental Services.

Alongside his professional positions, Dr. Ligotti is known for the invention of the Valu-Vac which is based on a simple idea of weights and baffle devices which separated and salvaged the precious metal of silver and gold from the oral debris during regular dental treatments. In addition he has authored several historic novels, suspense thrillers and screenplays and has contributed many articles to professional journals and was on the staff of magazines in upstate New York authoring a monthly column.

He received the Community Leader of America Award in 1969 and listings in editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the East.
