Mr. Gookin is a recently retired civil engineer and was the owner of Gookin Hydrology in Scottsdale, AZ. He is an expert in the Arizona Doctrine of subflow, computing virgin flows, and surface water/groundwater interactions. He established his business in 2008 after representing Gookin Engineers Ltd. for 40 years. Until his recent retirement, he was a registered professional engineer in California, Arizona and Nevada, Mr. Gookin was also a licensed land surveyor in Arizona, an hydrologist with the American Institute of Hydrology, and a state water right surveyor in Nevada.
Active in the field, Mr. Gookin had been serving as the treasurer of the American Institute of Hydrology since 2008, a non-profit scientific and educational organization that certifies the competence and ethical conduct of professionals in the field of hydrology. He has also been the longtime chairman of the advisory committee for the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration since 1984. Mr. Gookin was a member of several other organizations as well, including the Arizona Hydrology Society, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Arizona Society of Professional Engineers, where he notably served as secretary of the Papago chapter, vice president and president.
Mr. Gookin was the co-author of "Globe Equity #59 Call System" and was part of the team that negotiated the largest Indian Water Rights settlement in the United States. He has been recognized with several awards during his career, including a Special Recognition Award from the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration. He also received a Young Engineer Award and an Outstanding Engineering Project Award from other organizations and has been cited in more than 50 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Mr. Gookin earned a Bachelor of Science, with distinction, from Arizona State University in 1975.
Born in Tulsa, OK, Mr. Gookin later married his wife Sandra Jean Andrews in 1983. When he isn't busy assisting clients, he enjoys experimenting with computers.
