With 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Grandin has been an independent consultant with Grandin Livestock Systems since 1975, as well as a lecturer and professor within the animal sciences department at Colorado State University since 1990. Earlier in her career, she was an equipment designer for Corral Industries from 1974 to 1975 and the livestock editor with Arizona Farmer Ranchman from 1973 to 1978. She is renowned for her design of stockyards and humane restraint methods for meat packing companies and the development of an objective scoring system for monitoring animal welfare. Dr. Grandin has also conducted a survey for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was chair of the handling committee of the Livestock Conservation Institute.

Dr. Grandin began her career with Franklin Pierce University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 1970. She subsequently joined Arizona State University, completing a Master of Science in animal science in 1975. After obtaining some experience in the field, she returned to her studies at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in animal science in 1989. Dr. Grandin also holds an honorary doctorate from McGill University, Duke University, Carnegie Mellon and several other universities.

A respected voice in the field, Dr. Grandin has been an active leader in her community. She has contributed articles to professional journals, and she has written numerous books on animal handling. In addition, she is renowned for her expertise and books on autism. She is a member of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the American Society of Agricultural Consultants, and the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists. She has been affiliated with the American Meat Institute, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, and the Autism Society of America. Dr. Grandin is a fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and the American Society of Animal Sciences.

Throughout her career, Dr. Grandin has been recognized for her contributions, including having had the Emmy Award-winning HBO film "Temple Grandin" made about her life. She was named Woman of the Year in Service to Agriculture by Progressive Farmer, and Time Magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. National Provisioner named her among the Processing Stars of 1990, the Livestock Publications Council gave her a Headlines Award, and the National Institute of Animal Agriculture gave her a Press Award.

The recipient of an Animal Welfare Award from the British Society of Animals Sciences and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Dr. Grandin received the Knowlton Innovation Award from Meat Marketing and Technology Magazine and the Joseph Wood Krutch Award from the Humane Society of the United States. She received the Humane Award from the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Founders Award from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Forbes Award from the National Meat Association, and the Humane Ethics in Action Award from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.

Dr. Grandin was honored with the Harry Roswell Award by Scientists Center for Animal Welfare, the Brownlee Award for International Leadership in Scientific Publication by the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada, and the Industry Innovators Award from Meat Marketing and Technology Magazine. She received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Franklin Pierce University and the Meritorious Services Award from Livestock Conservation. Dr. Grandin has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
