For nearly 40 years, Ms. Vercellotti has served as the president of V-Labs, Inc. in Covington, Louisiana. She began her career as a research assistant in the Graduate Research Center of Southwest Dallas in 1965, which she followed with research at the School of Medicine at Marquette University in Milwaukee and the University of Tennessee Memorial Research Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. She then excelled as a laboratory specialist at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia in the early 1970s, where she remained for five years before taking on a research associate role at the G. Ronzoni Institute for Chemical and Biochemical Research in Milan. During this time, she has also been appointed to the advisory board for the Industrial Science and Technological Innovation Directorate of the National Science Foundation for six years.
Majoring in chemistry, Ms. Vercellotti earned a Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1963. She later obtained a Master of Science from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio two years later. Her achievements in the field of chemistry include the co-development of protein thiol site-specific pyridine diazonium reagent for enzyme mechanism studies, the origination of the use of calibrated membranes for preparative separation of narrow molecular weight fractions of polysaccharides, isolation, fractionation, modification of polysaccharides to improve biological activity, including immunostimulant and antiviral activity, and the application of membrane technology.
To honor her valiant accomplishments, Ms. Vercellotti has accepted grants from numerous organizations throughout her career, including the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, and the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation. She was honored among the Successful Women in Chemistry in Corporate America's Contribution to Science in 2005, and previously attained accolades from both of her alma maters. Ms. Vercellotti has been additionally featured in the 25th edition of Who's Who of American Women and several editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
