His government career began with General Electric, operating contractor for the Atomic Energy Commission's Hanford Engineering Works; then the AEC's Chicago Office at Argonne National Laboratory; and finally, as the Department of Energy's Deputy Assistant Secretary for nuclear programs. Ferguson's private sector career began as chief executive officer of the Washington Public Power Supply System. He also gained valuable experience in executive roles for Science Applications International Corporation, Nuvotec, and on boards of directors for Perma-Fix Environmental Services and Perma-Fix Medical.
Mr. Ferguson's lawsuit against President Barack Obama and his administration for illegally shutting down the Yucca Mountain Project resulted in a landmark decision in August 2013. The D.C. Circuit Court granted a writ of mandamus forcing the continuation of the Yucca Mountain licensing process and allowing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to determine that the site is safe and suitable for building a permanent nuclear waste repository.
An expert in his field, Mr. Ferguson holds a Bachelor of Science in physics from Gonzaga University and is a graduate of the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology. Using his experience in building nuclear reactors and managing nuclear waste, he authored two books: "The Cost of Deceit and Delay- Obama and Reid's Scheme to Kill Yucca Mountain Wastes Billions," and "Nuclear Waste in Your Backyard- Who's to Blame and How to Fix It."
For excellence in his field, Mr. Ferguson has been recognized with the Gonzaga University alumni Merit Award and features in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Corporate America.
