Jose Fernando Olascoaga, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Jose Fernando Olascoaga has received a 2002 Architectural Research Centers Consortium/King Student Medal for Excellence in Architecture and Environmental Design Research.

With a majority of his career spent in higher education, Dr. Olascoaga has held the role of teacher at Seminole High School since 2012. A graduate instructor at Texas Tech University for a decade, he more recently taught at Wayland Baptist University and the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal in Lima, Peru, for 12 years. At Texas Tech, he taught various architectural courses as well as multiple different language courses such as Comprehensive Spanish Review-First Year, Intermediate Conversation and Intermediate Grammar. At Wayland Baptist University, Dr. Olascoaga also taught Spanish courses, including Elementary Spanish I and II.

Born in Peru and proficient in Spanish, English and Portuguese, Dr. Olascoaga was a trained architect who worked on various designs and remodeling projects, as well as several construction projects. He also owned his own company for some time. Upon moving to the United States, his architect's license was not recognized by the country, so he could not practice. Entering a Doctor of Philosophy program, Dr. Olascoaga was able to teach, which was a lifelong goal and allowed him to find much happiness in for many years.

Throughout his career in education, Dr. Olascoaga has served on the state review panel of textbooks for proclamation for LOTE, as a team leader for the Program of Christian Education for Adults at St. Elizabeth's University Parish where he also served as a parish council, and on various other committees. An ordained deacon at his local church, he also teaches students studying to receive the sacrament of confirmation, visits the sick and does other volunteer work for charities.

A guest speaker of Latin American culture and on various architectural topics and the author of dozens of research papers in scholarly journals, Dr. Olascoaga also published a book on the historical development of the Convent of Santo Domingo in Lima in 2003. He has received several awards for his efforts as well, including a 2002 Architectural Research Centers Consortium/King Student Medal for Excellence in Architecture and Environmental Design Research and a 2003 Banner Bearer for Commencement Day Ceremony from Texas Tech University graduate school.

Earning a Bachelor of Arts in architecture and a Professional Degree in architecture at the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal Peru, Dr. Olascoaga also received a Specialist Degree in Preservation and Restoration of Monuments. He then received an Master of Science in architecture at Texas Tech University, a Doctor of Philosophy in land-use planning, management and design at the College of Architecture, an Master of Arts in romance languages and a Doctor of Philosophy in Spanish at Texas Tech University. Dr. Olascoaga has since became certified in LOTE and Spanish, in English as a second language and mathematics, and registered as an architect through the Colegio de Arquitectos del Peru.
