Dr. John C. Brasunas has been recognized as astrophysicist emeritus of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center since 2018.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Brasunas has been recognized as astrophysicist emeritus of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center since 2018, having been an astrophysicist from 1985 to 2018. In addition to his primary role, he served as co-investigator for the CIRS orbiter instrument on the Cassini mission to Saturn from 1997 to 2018. Earlier in his career, Dr. Brasunas was a member of the technical staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1981 to 1984.

Dr. Brasunas began his career as a student at Regis High School (New York City), graduating in 1970. He then matriculated at Princeton University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. He subsequently continued his studies with Harvard University, earning a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in 1976 and 1981, respectively.

A respected voice in his community, Dr. Brasunas has been an active leader in his areas of interest. He is a member of the American Physical Society, the American Astronomical Society, the Optical Society, the American Geophysical Union, and the International Society for Optics and Photonics. He has also been affiliated with the Ivy Club. Dr. Brasunas has contributed over 50 articles to professional journals.

Throughout his career, Dr. Brasunas has been recognized for his accomplishments. A grantee of the NASA Office of Space Science and Applications, he has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in the East. In his free time, Dr. Brasunas enjoys old house restoration, landscape gardening, traveling, sailing and kayaking.
