With over 55 years of professional experience, Dr. Taylor currently is Chairman Emeritus of Ocean Power Technologies, Inc., a company he founded in 1984 and for which he previously served as president, CEO and Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors. He also founded Princeton Resources Inc. in 1875 and is currently President and Chairman. Prior to this he founded and served as Vice President of Princeton materials Science, Inc. from 1970 to 1975. He was a Member of the Technical Staff of RCA Laboratories in Princeton, NJ from 1962 to 1970 and a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering at the University of Sydney from 1961 to 1962.

Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Taylor pursued an education at The University of Western Australia in Perth, earning a Bachelor of Engineering, with First Class honors, in 1957. Following this accomplishment, he obtained was awarded a Hackett Overseas Scholarship by the University of Western Australia and a CSIRO Scholarship by the Commonwealth of Australia. This enabled him to study for a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of London in the UM, which was awarded in 1961. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Engineering degree from The University of Western Australia in 1981 for his publications and patents obtained during the period 1962 to 1980. In 1989, Dr. Taylor was presented with an honorary Doctor of Science from the Southern Federal University in Rostov-on-Don, Russia and in 2009 an honorary Doctor of letters degree from The University of Western Australia.

In addition to his primary career responsibilities, Dr. Taylor authored the book "Polar Dielectrics and Their Applications" in 1979 and "Piezoelectricity" in 1985. He is the Editor of the Book Series "Ferroelectricity and Related Phenomena," which was established in 1976. Furthermore, Dr. Taylor founded the international archival scientific journals Ferroelectrics in 1970, Ferroelectrics Letters in 1983 and Integrated Ferroelectrics in 1992. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief for all three journals.

In order to remain abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Taylor maintains affiliation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (US), the Institute of Engineering Technology (UK) – formerly the Institution of Electrical Engineers (UK) and the Institution of Engineers, Australia and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. He is an elected Fellow of both the Institution of Engineers Australia and the Institute of Engineering Technology (UK), is also the recipient of the IRE-Fisk Prize in 1956 and the RCA Laboratory Award in 1966, Ramtron Fellowship Award in 1988, Ocean Energy Pioneer Award in 2007 and the Marine Renewable Energy Conference Navigator Award in 2009. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Taylor has previously been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Who's Who in the World.
