Rodney Powell Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Rodney Powell has been twice named as Young Engineer of the Year by the Instrument Society of America, as well as named Young Engineer by the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers in 1982.

With over 43 years as a professional engineer, Mr. Powell is experienced in engineering and construction project management. Currently, he is an EPC project manager for large NTT paper machine and converting complex at Clearwater Paper Company. He has held this role since May of 2017. In the two years leading up to accepting this position, he served Resolute Forest Products as a tissue project manager. There, he was responsible for strategy, planning, overseeing purchases, and securing operating permits. Prior to this, he was in private consulting from 2014 to 2015 and the manager of projects at Jedson Engineering in the summer of 2014. From 2007 to 2014, he found success at Kellogg, Brown & Root as a senior manager of operations with a focus on marketing and sales and the director of operations for forest and consumer products.

Previous roles Mr. Powell has filled include an executive sponsor for Saudi Paper Manufacturing Company and senior EPC project manager for Georgia-Pacific, MeadWestvaco, 125MW and 50MW Biomass Reference Power Plants, and BE&K Construction, which was purchased by Kellogg, Brown & Root. At various locations within Alabama, he acted as a senior project manager for International Paper. In the Selma, AL, location, he led a $6.3 million construction project. For the bulk of his career, he dedicated time as a managing executive in the PBK Division at Georgia-Pacific, LLC. With Fort James Operating Co. in Pennington, AL, he served as a manager of total productive maintenance and manager of operations III, fiberline and utilities.

In Crossett, AR, Mr. Powell excelled in numerous roles with Georgia Pacific Corp. Beginning his time there as a process control superintendent, then became manager of engineering, pulp mill superintendent, mill project lead, technical superintendent, and manager of southern region MIP. Earlier in his career, he was the southeast regional sales manager and national manager of regional process control centers at Bailey Controls Co. in Atlanta, GA, from 1985 to 1988. His first professional role was with Rust Engineering Company in Birmingham, AL, from 1975 to 1985 as a controls lead design engineer and the process control staff engineer.

Before pursuing a career in the field, Mr. Powell pursued a formal education. He attended Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. He ultimately graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Moreover, he has earned certifications as a Professional Engineer in Mississippi and Alabama. Though he has retired, at one time he held certifications as a Professional Engineer in Texas, Florida and North Carolina.

Alongside his professional roles, Mr. Powell has been a member of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry since 1985 and was vice president of the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers from 1981 to 1982. He has also been twice named as Young Engineer of the Year by the Instrument Society of America, as well as named Young Engineer by the Alabama Society of Professional Engineers in 1982 and as Young Engineer and Engineer of the Year by the Birmingham Engineering Council. He is listed in the 26th edition of Who's Who In Finance and Industry.
