A New Jersey native, Ms. Adams earned a Bachelor of Science degree Magna Cum Laude from Wheaton College in 1961. A natural affinity for art came through her mother's lineage, where she is the fifth generation of female college graduates. Her grandmother did oil paintings on board and painted flowers on Havilland china. Returning from teaching high school science five years in Sierra Leone, West Africa in 1965, she attended the Art Students League and is now a life member. A watercolor was purchased by the League for their collection. She also attended the National Academy of Design. In 1988 she received a Masters Degree in Studio Art from NYU.
For thirty years Ms. Adams was a resident artist for the South Carolina Arts Commission. A pastel was purchased by the Arts Commission for the state collection. In 1983 she was awarded a Certificate of Distinction by the Columbia Museum of Art. Her work is included in the collections of two museums in Europe, the National Bank of South Carolina, the Florence Museum of Art, Florence, SC, and the Morris Museum in Augusta, GA. Her most recent international showing was at the famous Biennale Internazionale Dell'Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy, in 2003.
A Master Gardener emeritus and a Master Naturalist, Ms. Adams has written a gardening column for twenty years for a weekly newspaper, titled "The Peripatetic Gerdner."
Aside from her work as an artist, Ms. Adams started the Lee County Arts Council, served fourteen years as chair of the Zoning Board in her current residence of Bishopville, South Carolina, was the first female on the Bishopville Rescue Squad, and executive director of the Lee County Historical Society. She is a life member of the Garden Club of South Carolina and served on the National Council of State Garden Clubs. She is listed in the 20th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest and two editions of Who's Who of American Women.
