An accomplished listee, Mary Muriel Flekke celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Fostering a love of books from a young age, Miss Flekke prepared for a career in library services by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in history from Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota. She later returned to Saint Cloud State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in library science. After these accomplishments, Miss Flekke began her career at Roux Library at Florida Southern College in 1982, serving as the instructional services librarian until her retirement in 2011.

In addition to her primary role as a librarian, Miss Flekke also contributed to her field as a prolific writer. In 1995, she authored "Telling Our Stories, Oral and Family History." She has also co-authored several books with Randall M. MacDonald including "Lakeland" in 2005, and "Cypress Gardens" in 2006. Additionally, Miss Flekke helped to pen "100 Years of Grace, 1909-2009: The History of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church."

Civically, Miss Flekke has been active in her community through her work with the Lutheran church. She continues to serve on the board of directors as secretary of the James R. Crumley, Jr. Archives for the ELCA Region 9, located in the South Carolina Synod; and, Chair of the Lake Conference for the Florida Bahamas Synod ELCA. In order to remain aware of developments in her field and her community, Miss Flekke maintains affiliation with the Lakeland Choral Society (Historian), the Florida Library Association, and the Society of Florida Archivists (former president, and membership chair). She is also an avid photographer.
