With more than 55 years of professional experience, Dr. Sclove has been a professor at the University of Illinois since 1981, having been an associate professor there from 1972 to 1981. He was a visiting assistant professor of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences at Northwestern University in 1980 and 1981. Prior to these roles, he was an assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University from 1968 to 1972, a visiting assistant professor of statistics and education at Stanford University in 1971 and 1972, and a research associate with Stanford University from 1966 to 1968. Earlier in his career, he was a mathematical statistician for the United States Public Health Service from 1962 to 1964.
Dr. Sclove began his career as a student at Dartmouth College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1962. While pursuing his studies, he developed a passion for mathematics and statistics and was inspired to pursue the field. He concluded his studies at Columbia University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1967.
A respected leader in his community, Dr. Sclove has been affiliated with a number of organizations in relation to his areas of interest. He was the secretary-treasurer of the Classification Society and a member of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences. He served on the board of directors of the Chicago chapter of the American Statistical Association and been chair of its section on risk analysis, and he has consulted for various firms. He has been an investigator on research contracts with the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Office of Naval Research, and the Army Research Office.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sclove has been honored for his achievements. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
