Edward W. Scott Jr. accepted a Special Commendation Award and Special Achievement Award by the United States Department of Justice.

    SAN JOSE, CA, December 11, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Edward W. Scott Jr. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Scott celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. A retired government official and philanthropist, Mr. Scott is the former co-founder and president of BEA Systems, an enterprise software company that he, along with two colleagues, established in 1995 in San Jose, Calif. Employed in the United States government for the first 17 years of his career, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Department of Transportation. During his government tenure, he served under seven attorney generals and three secretaries of transportation. Likewise, Mr. Scott was the deputy assistant attorney general for administration in the Office of Management and Finance of the Department of Justice as well as an assistant secretary for administration within the Department of Transportation.

After exiting government service, Mr. Scott devoted the next 15 years to the technology industry, where he held several executive leadership roles with Computer Consoles Inc., Pyramid Technologies and Sun Microsystems. Co-founding BEA Systems shortly thereafter where he oversaw worldwide field operations, BEA was sold to Oracle in 2008 for $8.5 billon. A passionate philanthropist, he is most proud of his efforts in trying to control AIDS in children in Africa. In fact, Mr. Scott has provided substantial financial and advisory support to Compassion International, a faith-based children's development group that aids over 1,700,000 children in 26 countries.

Mr. Scott notably co-founded the Center for Global Development in 2001, where he now serves as chairman emeritus. The Center for Global Development is a U.S. non-profit think tank based in Washington, D.C. that focuses on international development. He further co-founded the advocacy organization DATA in 2002 with Bill Gates and George Soros. In 2004, Mr. Scott founded Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, an organization that provides support in the U.S. for The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, for which he is now chairman emeritus.

Three years later, in 2007, Mr. Scott established and funded the Scott Family Liberia Fellows program, which provides a team of trained economists and development specialists that work directly for the cabinet secretaries of various Liberian ministries to assist the President of Liberia. In 2008, he founded the Center for Interfaith Action on Global Poverty to improve the capacity and effectiveness of faith communities to reduce poverty and disease. This organization later merged with Religions of Peace in 2013.

Mr. Scott was the principal donor to create the Scott Center for Autism Treatment at the Florida Institute of Technology, where he has since served on the board of trustees. His work with autism then led to his appointment on the Chancellor's Court of Benefactors at the University of Oxford. Furthermore, Mr. Scott endowed a chair in psychiatry and two research fellowships dedicated to the study of the causes and possible treatments of autism spectrum disorders, and established a special program at University College at Oxford for admission to the college of students with severe disabilities.

Mr. Scott is also the largest investor in Tyton BioEnergy Systems, a company that develops solutions for producing biofuels. He also is the sole owner of Tyton NC Biofuels, a biofuel production facility in North Carolina, as well as the owner and operator of the Kiwi Tennis Club in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla. A chairman of the board of directors and majority shareholder of the Florida Beer Company, Mr. Scott has also been a member of the board of Malaria No More, the Florida Institute of Technology, the Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and VOXIVA.

Mr. Scott serves on the board of directors of the United States Global Leadership Coalition as well. He previously contributed to the board of directors of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and the King Center for the Performing Arts and Whole Child International. Throughout his career, Mr. Scott has spoken globally on various issues, including global development and public health, technology and entrepreneurship.

In 2011, Mr. Scott was honored as the commencement speaker at Florida Institute of Technology, where he received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. Also at the Florida Institute of Technology, Mr. Scott established the Scott Center for Autism, Research and Treatment. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in political science from Michigan State University. Mr. Scott later obtained a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, politics and economics from University College at the University of Oxford.

Mr. Scott accepted a Special Commendation Award and Special Achievement Award by the United States Department of Justice, a Presidential Senior Executive Service Rank Award for Distinguished Executive and a William A. Jump Memorial Foundation Meritorious Award for Exemplary Achievement in Public Administration. He was presented with an Outstanding Alumni Award from Michigan State University in 2012. Most recently, in 2016 Mr. Scott received the BNP Paribas Grand Prize for Individual Philanthropy for his philanthropic achievements.
