Joan Horsburgh Ainsworth Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Ainsworth was most recently a senior development officer at the Cleveland Museum of Art and also maintained involvement with Case Western Reserve University until her retirement in 2012. She was previously employed at CWRU as an assistant dean for development in the College of Arts and Science from 2001 to 2004, the director of development in the College of Arts and Science from 1998 to 2001, a director of the special gifts and principal projects from 1997 to 1998 and the director of development and president's programs from 1989 to 1997. From 1986 to 1989, Ms. Ainsworth was the director of Project MOVE in the Office of the Mayor of the City of Cleveland; in acknowledgement of her service she was named Honorary Mayor of the City of Cleveland in 1989.

In the year leading up to this post, Ms. Ainsworth was an administrative assistant to the president at Medical Ventures Ltd. in Cleveland, OH. Her first professional role was as a social worker at the San Diego County Welfare Department from 1966 until 1968. Afterwards, she took a two-year position as a social worker and volunteer coordinator at the Washtenaw County Juvenile Court in Ann Arbor, MI.

Ms. Ainsworth's academic pursuits began at Wells College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. She continued her studies at Case Western Reserve University and obtained a Master of Business Administration in 1986. Additionally, she is certified as a fundraising executive.

As an active member in the professional community, Ms. Ainsworth was a trustee and vice president of the Children's Aid Society in Cleveland, OH from 1987 to 2004, where she was president from 1997 to 2004. From 1990 to 1996, she was a trustee and chair of the development committee for Project: LEARN in Cleveland, OH. She is a past trustee and community volunteer with the Junior League of Cleveland Inc., where she began in 1971.

Furthermore, Ms. Ainsworth was active in Volunteer Ohio from 1987 to 1996. She also spent time as a trustee and executive committee member of Applewood Centers Inc. from 2004 to 2014. Since 2014, she has been recognized as emerita at Applewood Centers Inc. She was a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. She is also a member of the National Association of Fundraising Professionals, where she was certified as the publicity chair for the Greater Cleveland chapter from 1994 to 1996.

She spends time outside of her professional circles flying, playing tennis, boating and traveling. She has previously been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
