With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Gerbasi has been a psychology professor with Niagara County Community College since 2010, also serving as the coordinator of the Faculty Research Center since 2016. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was an associate professor of psychology from 2008 to 2010, an assistant professor of psychology from 2005 to 2008, and an instructor of psychology from 2000 to 2005.

Dr. Gerbasi began her career as a student at the University of Rochester, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, with high distinction, in psychology in 1971. She then joined Washington University, where she participated in a graduate study in psychology from 1971 to 1972. She subsequently rejoined the University of Rochester, where she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in social psychology in 1976. Dr. Gerbasi is certified in animal assisted therapy by DePaul University.

A respected leader in the field, Dr. Gerbasi has been affiliated with a number of organizations in her community. A founding member of the International Association for Anthropomorphic Research Project, she also helped to establish FurScience and the Research Collaboration for Therian/Otherkin Identity. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science and Sigma Xi.

Throughout her career, Dr. Gerbasi has been recognized for her achievements. She received the Niagara County Community College Conversations in Disciplines Grant and the SUNY Chancellor Award for Research and Creative Activities. She has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America.
