Barbara Perkins has been recognized as a fellow of the National Library of Scotland and as a faculty fellow of the Danforth Foundation.

With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Perkins worked as the managing editor of the Journal of Narrative Technology at Eastern Michigan University from 1977 to 1992, having further held the post of director of writing improvement with Eastern Michigan University since 1976. Prior to obtaining these roles, she served as an assistant professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University from 1964 to 1966, and completed a teaching fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1964. Earlier in her career, Dr. Perkins excelled as an assistant professor at Baldwin-Wallace College from 1958 to 1963 and as a teacher with Cleveland Public Schools from 1956 to 1958.

Dr. Perkins began her career as a student at Baldwin-Wallace College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1956. She continued her studies at Kent State University, graduating with a Master of Arts in 1959. After obtaining some experience in the field, Dr. Perkins returned to her studies with the University of Pennsylvania, obtaining a Doctor of Philosophy in 1972.

A leading voice in her industry, Dr. Perkins has been affiliated with a number of organizations in her community. She is a member of the Modern Language Association and the Society for the Study of Narrative Literature. Likewise, she found success as a visiting professor with the University of Newcastle and an adjunct professor with the University of Toledo. An associate editor of several books, Dr. Perkins has contributed to the Airport Advisory Committee of Ann Arbor, been on the board of directors and chair of program committee for HelpSource, and been a member of The Ann Arbor Thrift Shop.

Throughout her career, Dr. Perkins has been celebrated for her contributions. She has been recognized as a fellow of the National Library of Scotland and as a faculty fellow of the Danforth Foundation. Dr. Perkins has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who of American Women.
