With more than 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Pyzdek has served as chief executive officer of the Pyzdek Institute, LLC, since 2018, having previously held the positions of president since 2007 and principal consultant since 1993. Prior to his current roles, he excelled as the president and chief executive officer of Quality America, Inc., from 1983 to 1993, and the head of total quality systems with Hughes Aircraft Company from 1982 to 1983, for which he had been the senior product assurance engineer since 1979. Earlier in his career, Mr. Pyzdek worked as the supervisor of quality and reliability engineering with Valmont Industries from 1975 to 1979, quality engineering technician at Lozier Corporation from 1971 to 1974, and quality technician with the Continental Can Company from 1966 to 1971.
Mr. Pyzdek began his career as a student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, earning a Bachelor of Science in economics in 1973. He continued his studies with the University of Arizona, obtaining a Master of Science in systems and industrial engineering in 1982. After accruing some experience in the field, he concluded his education with the University of Arizona, graduating with a Master of Science in management in 1995. Mr. Pyzdek taught statistics at the University of Arizona.
A respected voice in the field, Mr. Pyzdek has been an active leader in his community. A Fellow of the American Society for Quality, he is also a member of Mensa International. He is the author of "Six Sigma Handbook," "An SPC Primer," "SPC-PC, (software)" "Certified Quality Engineer Exam Guide," "What Every Engineer Should Know About Quality," "What Every Manager Should Know About Quality," and "Quality Management Handbook." The editor of "Quality Engineering Handbook," Mr. Pyzdek has been appointed to the editorial boards of Quality Engineering, Quality Management Journal, the International Journal of Six Sigma, and Competitive Advantage.
Throughout his career, Mr. Pyzdek has been recognized for his contributions to the field. The recipient of the ASQ Award for Outstanding Contributions to Six Sigma, he has also accepted the ASQ Grant Medal, the ASQ Edwards Medal, and was an examiner for the first Malcolm Balridge National Quality Award where he attended the White House ceremony where President Ronald Regan presented the awards to the winners. Mr. Pyzdek has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, and Who's Who in the West.
