He served as assistant managing partner at Hale and Dorr from 1980 to 2004. After Hale and Dorr merged with Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr in 2004, he served as assistant managing partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, Boston from 2004 to 2011. Earlier in his career, he was junior partner from 1975 to 1979 having begun his career as an associate with Hale and Dorr in 1969.
Prior to embarking on his career, Mr. Westcott pursued an education at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in 1966. He continued his studies with Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1969. Licensed to practice law by the Massachusetts State Bar the same year, Mr. Westcott subsequently joined the United States Army Reserve, serving from 1969 to 1975 simultaneously while he was practicing law. Mr. Westcott married Suzanne Laporte Westcott on June 27, 1970 and lives in Chestnut Hill, MA.
In addition to his primary career responsibilities, Mr. Westcott contributed his skills to a number of other professional endeavors. He served as a corporation member of The Winsor School in Boston from 1986 to present and as a clerk and trustee from 1989 to 2018. He served as a general partner with Hale and Dorr Capital Management LLC from 1988 to 2012. Mr. Westcott is also the author of "Fundamentals of Law Firm Management" in 2013, "Dividing the Pie: Law Firm Compensation Systems" in 2015 and, most recently, "The Law Firm of the Future: Adapting to a Changed Legal Marketplace" in 2018.
Maintaining affiliation with The Country Club (Brookline), the Union Boat Club, and the Somerset Club, Mr. Westcott has been recognized for his many achievements all throughout his career. Most notably, he was named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer by Boston Magazine in 2004. Mr. Westcott has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the East.
