Lawrence Guthrie Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    WASHINGTON, DC, December 27, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lawrence Guthrie with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Guthrie celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Since 1995, Mr. Guthrie has been an interlibrary loan librarian at Covington & Burling LLP in Washington, D.C. Prior to this, he held the same position at the Jacob Burns Law Library at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. from 1989 to 1995. Beginning in 1986, Mr. Guthrie spent three years as the graduate librarian for nursing and biology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. His first professional post was as an assistant professor of psychology at Tulsa Community College from 1982 to 1986.

In 1972, Mr. Guthrie began his academic pursuits at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where he earned his Bachelor of Science in 1976. Following this, he attended Lay Psychoanalysis at the Anna Freud Center in London in 1979. One year later, Mr. Guthrie earned his Master of Arts in human relations at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He holds a Life Coach Certificate from 2018.

Then in 1988, Mr. Guthrie obtained his Master of Science in library science and information science at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Finally, in 2012, he pursued a Doctor of Philosophy in humanities at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. Mr. Guthrie's passion for libraries began as a college student studying in the Joseph Mark Lauinger Memorial Library, a Georgetown University library named after his neighbor who was killed in Vietnam.

From 1980 to 1984, Mr. Guthrie was on the baseball coaching staff at Cascia Hall in Tulsa. In addition, he wrote for his high school newspaper, is the founder of the Today's Events column in the Tulsa World Newspaper where he contributed from 1972 to 2017, was a consultant and District of Columbia correspondent for the Urban Tulsa Weekly from 1990 to 1993, and was a consultant for This Land press from 2011 to 2017. In addition to his involvement with newspapers, Mr. Guthrie also contributed articles to professional journals, periodicals, and chapters to books; and has been acknowledged by authors in numerous books.

In 2012, Mr. Guthrie wrote "Building Collaborative Communities: Collaboration in Libraries," which was published in the Social Science Research Network. That same year, he authored "Best Practices in Government Libraries" which was published on Lexis Nexis. Mr. Guthrie was involved with Sports Libraries in 1995, Historical Aspects of Cataloging and Classification in 2003, print books and opinion editorials with The New York Times in 2001, and was a columnist for Copyright Corner and Information Outlook from 1997 to 1998.

Mr. Guthrie's civil work throughout the years has been extensive. From 1990 to 1992, he was a board director of the Library and Information Science Alumni Association at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was a moderator of the White House Conference on School Libraries in Washington, D.C. in 1991. Also in Washington, D.C., Mr. Guthrie donated an Oklahoma flag to the John F. Kennedy Center Hall of States in 1988.

In 2000, Mr. Guthrie donated a sailboat to Southwestern Oklahoma State University at-risk youth program. In addition, he was a speaker on author Woody Guthrie at 100 centennial events in Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania State University, and Tulsa, OK in 2012. Since 2014, Mr. Guthrie has been on the board of directors at the American Women Writers National Museum.

Mr. Guthrie has been an active member of the Special Libraries Association over the years. He was on the copyright committee from 1992 to 1995, was chair from 1997 to 1998, the government relations committee beginning in 1995, the chairman of the legal division from 1999 to 2000, the Liverpool delegate in 2002, and the chair of the international committee from 2006 to 2007. Mr. Guthrie has remained the chairman since 1996 and the chair of the labor issues section since 2008.

Mr. Guthrie has been acknowledged for his work over the years, including having his name engraved on a cornerstone at the Mabee Legal Information Center at the University of Tulsa. In 1989, he was the recipient of a commendation as an educator of all levels by the Governor and legislature of Oklahoma. More recently, Mr. Guthrie was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Special Libraries Association in 2017. An honor he considers to be a highlight in his career was serving as publishing lead for Covington: A Centennial Story (2018).
