June Hall McCash, Ph.D., Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. McCash is a professor emerita who spent the majority of her academic career at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU).

Dr. McCash is a professor emerita who spent the majority of her academic career at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in Murfreesboro, TN. A professor emerita since 2004, she taught on campus for 37 years in the department of foreign languages, was the founding director of the university honors program, chaired the department of foreign languages and served as the graduate director of the department of foreign languages and literatures. Prior to joining the Middle Tennessee State University faculty, she taught in the department of romance languages at Emory University for two years beginning in 1964.

The author of 13 books, including four novels and eight non-fiction books, Dr. McCash also published a book of poetry called "The Thread Box," Her most recent books include two historical novels, "Marguerite's Landing: A Novel of Jekyll Island" and "The Boys of Shiloh." Her book "Almost to Eden" earned her a Georgia Author of the Year Award for First Novel in 2011, and her book "Plum Orchard" was the recipient of a Georgia Author of the Year Award for Best Novel in 2013. Dr. McCash is currently penning a new book of historical fiction titled "Eleanor's Daughter," which is the story of Marie de Champagne, the eldest daughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine. She has also published widely in the academic journals in her field of medieval literature. In addition to her publications, she has appeared in four documentaries about Jekyll Island, GA, and has served on the editorial board of "Le Cygne: A Journal on Marie de France." She also speaks to various groups, including book clubs, historical associations, and museums.

Dr. McCash spent many years as an active participant on various boards, among them the Tennessee Humanities Council, where she served as chair from 1989-91. She also chaired the Advisory Board of the Southern Festival of Books from 1988-92, as well as the Southern Humanities Media Fund. She served nine years on the Jekyll Island Foundation Board and has remained active on the Foundation's Advisory Board since 2010. She currently serves as a member of the Alumnae Board of Agnes Scott College since 2017, and as a distinguished member of the MTSU Honors College Board of Visitors since its inception in 2007.

A longstanding member of various professional organizations, she has served as president of both the Southeastern Medieval Association and the International Courtly Literature Society, where she remains an honorary lifetime president. She has also been a longtime member of the International Arthurian Society, the Medieval Academy of America, the Société Rencesvals and several honorary societies.

Very fortunate to have experienced two wonderful careers, one in academia and one in writing, Dr. McCash was always inspired by her love of learning. She was the recipient of MTSU Foundation's Career Achievement Award in 2003, the highest honor bestowed at her university, as well as its Distinguished Research Award in 1996 and the Honors Outstanding Faculty award in 1981. Agnes Scott College presented her with its Outstanding Alumna Award for Distinguished Career in 1996. She has also received several awards from the Southeastern Writers Association, among them a Josephine Mellichamp Nonfiction Award in 2008, and a Cantrell Chambless Juvenile Fiction Award in 2006. Dr. McCash has been showcased in approximately 25 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.

A former fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Council on Education, Dr. McCash holds a Bachelor of Arts from Agnes Scott College and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Emory University.
