With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Nolan has been a professor with American University since 1998, also serving as department chair from 1999 to 2001, associate professor from 1992 to 1998, and assistant professor from 1989 to 1992. From 1987 to 1989, he was a software consultant with Quantitative Medicine, Inc., and from 1986 to 1987, he was an assistant professor with the University of Northern Florida. Earlier in his career, Dr. Nolan was an assistant professor with Kenyon College from 1984 to 1986 and a lecturer with the University of Zambia from 1982 to 1984. He is also founder and president of Robust Analysis, Inc.
Dr. Nolan began his career as a student at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in mathematics in 1975. He subsequently continued his studies with the University of Virginia, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics in 1982.
A respected leader in his areas of interest, Dr. Nolan has been active with a number of organizations in his community. A contributor of articles to professional journals, he is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Statistical Association.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nolan has been honored for his contributions. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in America and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
