Dr. Keith Edward Meredith retired in 1999, having been director of the gerontological studies interdisciplinary studies program at the University of Arizona since 1993.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Meredith retired in 1999, having been director of the gerontological studies interdisciplinary studies program at the University of Arizona since 1993. In addition to his primary role, he held a number of positions with the school, including adjunct associate professor in the College of Education from 1986 to 1999, and associate director of the Arizona Center for Aging from 1991 to 1998, the Division of Restorative Medicine from 1985 to 1991, and the Southwest Arthritis Center from 1981 to 1985. From 1974 to 1981, he was an assistant professor in the College of Education, and from 1972 to 1973, he was a research associate. Earlier in his career, Dr. Meredith was assistant director of bands at Kansas State University from 1966 to 1968 and a member of the faculty of Manhattan Public Schools from 1965 to 1966.

Dr. Meredith began his career as a student at Kansas State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1965. The foundation for his career path was further established with his marriage to Margaret Rose Meek in 1964. This marriage added strength and direction to the remainder of his career with the birth of three sons: Kurt Edward, Mark David, and Scott Thomas, and eventually, three grandchildren: Samra and Morike (Kurt and Andrea), and Natassja (Mark).

He studies continued at Kansas State University, obtaining a Master of Science in 1968. He concluded his education in 1972, earning a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Arizona. Dr. Meredith is a member of the American Educational Research Association, and he was author or co-author of more than 80 articles found in professional journals and an investigator or co-investigator of more than 40 grants.

A respected voice in his community, Dr Meredith has held a number of leadership positions in his professional circles. The former chair of the board of trustees of Arizona State Retirement Systems and OASIS, he was also the president of the University of Arizona Retirees Association. He served as chair of the board of directors of United Way, chair of the Planning Division of United Way, chair of United Way Capital Support Corporation, chair of the board of trustees of Sonora Desert Hospital, and he was a member of the advisory council of aging for the Arizona governor's office.

Throughout his career, Dr. Meredith has been recognized for his achievements. He received a Research Award from the Association for Specialists in Group Work, a Meritorious Performance in Teaching Award from the University of Arizona Foundation, and a Volunteer of the Year Award from the United Way of Greater Tucson. Dr. Meredith has been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 61st edition of Who's Who in America.
