Marc Plattner Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    WASHINGTON, DC, December 31, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Marc Plattner with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Plattner celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Plattner has worked at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) since 1984, serving as director of program from 1984 to 1989, counselor from 1989 to 2002, vice president for research and studies from 2002 to 2015. He has also been coeditor of the Journal of Democracy since its launching in 1989, and is co-chair of the research council of NED's International Forum for Democratic Studies, where he had been codirector since its founding in 1994. He began his career in 1971, serving as the managing editor of The Public Interest until 1975. He later took on varying executive and political roles with The Twentieth Century Fund (now known as The Century Foundation) and the United States Mission to the United Nations. In the fall of 1976 he was director of research for the Moynihan for Senate campaign.

In addition to his primary career responsibilities, Dr. Plattner has been a visiting fellow or professor at a number of leading educational and research institutions, including the National Humanities Center, the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, St. Antony's College at the University of Oxford in England; and the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, Austria. He also is the chair of the International Advisory Board of the Institute of Political Studies at the Catholic University of Portugal. A regular contributor of articles to leading journals, he has also written two books: Democracy Without Borders? (2008) and Rousseau's State of Nature (1979). In addition, he has co-edited more than two dozen books, most recently Authoritarianism Goes Global: The Challenge to Democracy (2016) and Democracy in Decline? (2015).

Dr. Plattner is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Political Science Association. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (summa cum laude) from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and a Doctor of Philosophy in government from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. As a student, he was inducted into The Phi Beta Kappa Society and was the recipient of a Herbert H. Lehman fellowship from 1966 to 1970 and the Earhart Foundation fellowship from 1970 to 1971.
